Hello
My name is Michaela Psaila-Savona
I am a certified Masters- trained Creative Arts Therapist registered with the Australian New Zealand Asian Creative Arts Therapies Association (ANZACATA). For the past 28 years, I have held a variety of professional positions in the public and private health sectors, including mental health nursing and visual artist. I hold additional qualifications in visual arts, nursing, and addictions studies.
I bring a compassionate, creative and trauma-informed approach to all my therapeutic interactions. My areas of interest include addictions, general mental health, trauma, grief/loss and sexual identity. I work with children, youth, and older adults, individually or in a group setting.
What is Creative Arts Therapies
Creative Arts Therapy (CAT) is an experiential psychotherapy. My therapeutic approach is multimodal and CAT sessions may include visual arts, sand tray, clay therapy and drama therapy.
I am passionate about maintaining a person centred, safe, supportive, and non-judgemental creative space, to explore and express unconscious material that may be difficult to articulate in words. CAT sessions aim to explore thoughts, feelings, and emotions to increase resilience, reduce emotional distress, improve self-esteem/confidence, identify coping skills and assist with dysregulation.
